Morkais

Morkais originated from the Divine Covenant and are not one of the seven original, humanoid species. They are a race of kaisHear it pronounced.

Traits

The morkais share basic physical traits with daekais, but important physical differences exist. Morkais do not have poisonous teeth or claws (in fact they are the antidote to daekais poison) and take far better care of themselves.

The morkais are among the smartest species, having excellent street smarts. They have great memories and quick, attentive, wise minds. They make few social mistakes, slips of the tongue, or inappropriate comments. Their ability to understand others and bring people together makes them very appealing. They are physically attractive, dress well, fly gracefully, and have wings that excite the imagination.

Kais are not very strong but can draw a bow. Morkais have a healthy endurance and stamina for flight. The airborne agility is very high, with kais capable of many acrobatic moves. They can outmaneuver the great birds of prey, but cannot fly as fast. On the ground, their agility is poor due to their wings.

Morkais are very skilled with their hands and are never irrationally afraid. They are braver than most species and aid almost everyone even at their own peril.

Appearance

Kais tend toward light brown skin. Morkais eyes are usually blue, gray, or green. They most often have thick blonde or sometimes brown, wavy hair. Morkais tunics are highly decorated and colorful unless in the wild. Some adopt the colors of a city’s symbol. Most morkais have a main or permanent residence.

Habitat

Morkais often live in joint settlements and have also built ones floating in the sky. They are often employed as messengers, either working for government, nobility, themselves (for hire), the rich (such as merchants), or their species (or another, such as a large karelian population). Others work as scouts, looking for both daekais threats and those upon the ground, and performing general recognizance. Morkais prefer warmer climates but will live anywhere.

A  morkais settlement will be built of wood and thatched materials like leaves, vines. Leather is also used for openings and roofs. Generally, light material is sought unless the structure is in a large Evenorr tree.

Magic

Morkais excel at magic more than anyone but karelia, partly because they, too, are heavily influenced by the green sphere gods, including Sorrin, god of magic. Unlike everyone else, they can cast spells from the air, which has them favoring certain spells. They can maneuver into positions that others can’t before casting. Sorcerers are exceptionally gifted.

Gods

All species acknowledge Llurien’s twenty-eight gods. The four gods of the red sphere created kryll and heavily influence their outlook.

Tarrera, Goddess of Truth, Prophecy, Fate, Testing

The influence of Tarrera helps morkais understand what others are saying, and judge the prevailing social opinions and situations wherever they are.

Sorrin, God of Energy, Vitality, Youth, Exuberance, Spirit, Speed, Magic, Lightning

Morkais have energetic minds that are quick to grasp meaning, and they have much better endurance than daekais. They learn magic swiftly and become adept.

Coiryn, God of Courage, Protection, Honor, Heroes

Coiryn gives morkais the courage to travel alone across the wilderness when acting as messengers and tracking riven, jhaikan, and daekais across the ground when this is inherently dangerous, for when night falls, they must rest in the trees where they could be attacked. They cannot be intimidated.

Scrylyn, Goddess of Intuition, Navigation, Sixth Sense, Superstition, Stars, Moons

Scrylyn influences the ability to navigate over long distances. Morkais seldom get lost, which is not true of daekais. Morkais intuition also affects their ability to bring others together and understand people.

Krisira, Goddess of Innocence, Hope, Naivety, Spring, Birth, Dawn, and Marriage

Morkais have innocence about social interactions, assuming things will go well and seldom believing the worst about someone and their intentions, though they are wise enough to realize some people are obnoxious; they just pretend to ignore it or skirt the issue as they can.

Fjora, Goddess of Passion, Love, Conviction, Devotion, Lust

The influence of Fjora makes morkais live life vigorously and enjoy all the things it has to offer. They are fully engaged in whatever pursuit occupies them.

Lierein, God of Expression, Art, Song, Music, Eloquence, Poetry

From Lierein, morkais have learned to appreciate the beauty in so many cultural aspects of different species and communities. This is part of what makes them so curious about others. It also inspires their kais calls. They are talented artists because of him.

Vylorn, God of Unity, Solidarity, Water, Waves, Sea Winds

The influence of Vylorn is felt in the morkais desire to bring others together in understanding and compassion.

Darra, Goddess of Pleasure, Joy, Affection, Kindness, Play, Dance

Darra inspires morkais with their love of social occasions, not just of the communication, but of the play and games that go with it. Morkais always encourage others to enjoy themselves and subsequently agree with querra that entertainment can bring groups together and overlook their differences.

Daedras, God of Creation, Construction, Craft, Artifice

Daedras’ influence inspires morkais to create art, the grandest of which, to them, is peaceful harmony among species, which they facilitate with their mediation skills.

Kojen, Goddess of Nourishment, Agriculture, Growth, Renewal

Kojen has inspired morkais with strong, healthy bodies that can withstand the difficulties of flight. They also have an enjoyment of foods to match that of karelia, though they aren’t quite the connoisseurs that karelia are.

Timonen, God of Patience, Wisdom, Understanding, Compassion, Listening, Tolerance

Timonen inspires the patience with which morkais listen to all and seek to learn what everyone wants before bringing them together.

Ideology

Morkais have an open and free society where ideas are eagerly discussed, shared, and examined with respect and curiosity. They do not attack ideas or those who have them. They actively seek out other cultures for art, cooking, political ideas, sports, architecture, history and more.

All morkais can speak, read, and write kais, Antarian, karelian, querran, and kryllan; they often work as translators. They often know how to speak some riven and jhaikan, including reading the symbols of the latter. No one can speak mandean but morkais know the Mandean Hand fluently.

Combat

Morkais use their feet, a sling, a short bow, a crossbow, a pole arm, a knife, or a short sword. Round stones for slings are considered such prizes that many morkais accept them as payment for services rendered. Querra, who find such stones in the earth, and mandeans, who find stones near the shore, collect such stones for morkais.
